better tomorrow
Dear Supporters and Partners, My name is Shanaka Maliyadda, and I have served Sri Lanka as a journalist for 31 years. Throughout my career, I have stood beside communities, reported their struggles, highlighted their resilience, and advocated for sustainable national development. Today, I am stepping beyond reporting change — to creating it. I am launching Sri Lanka’s first-ever Hydroponic Rice Farming Project, an innovative and sustainable agricultural initiative designed to empower rural communities while addressing future food security challenges. Rice is the heart of Sri Lankan life. Yet traditional paddy cultivation faces increasing difficulties — water scarcity, climate change, rising input costs, soil degradation, and unpredictable weather patterns. Hydroponic rice farming offers a revolutionary alternative: • Uses up to 80–90% less water • Reduces dependency on chemical fertilizers • Produces higher yields in controlled environments • Minimizes climate-related risks • Enables year-round cultivation • Provides sustainable income opportunities for farmers This pilot project will establish a modern hydroponic rice cultivation system that can later be replicated across the country. My vision is not simply to build a farm — but to create a model for community-based sustainable agriculture. The project will: 1. Establish demonstration hydroponic rice cultivation units 2. Train local farmers and youth in hydroponic techniques 3. Create employment opportunities within the community 4. Develop a replicable model for national expansion 5. Promote environmentally responsible farming practices Your contribution will directly support: • Construction of hydroponic growing systems • Water circulation and nutrient management systems • Greenhouse or protective structures • Seedling development and research • Farmer training workshops • Initial operational costs As a journalist, I have witnessed firsthand how rural communities struggle due to unpredictable harvests and limited opportunities. This project is my commitment to building a resilient agricultural future — one that empowers farmers, strengthens food security, and inspires innovation in Sri Lanka. Transparency and accountability will be core principles of this initiative. Regular progress updates, financial reporting, and community impact documentation will be shared with all supporters. This is more than a farming project. It is a national milestone. It is a step toward sustainable agriculture. It is a movement to empower communities. I warmly invite you to become a founding supporter of Sri Lanka’s first hydroponic rice farming initiative. Together, we can cultivate innovation, sustainability, and hope. Thank you for believing in a greener and stronger future. With gratitude, Shanaka Maliyadda Journalist | Social Advocate | Sustainable Agriculture Initiator Sri Lanka

Heartbroken but Still Hoping

Heartbroken but Still Hoping
My name is Sona, and this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. Life has a way of breaking you in places you never imagined. I never thought I would be here heartbroken, emotionally exhausted, and standing alone trying to put my life back together. I gave my heart, my trust, and my energy to someone who I believed would be part of my future. But love doesn’t always turn out the way we hope. The person I cared for deeply ended up hurting me in ways I never saw coming. Words were said that cut me, and actions were taken that left me feeling unwanted, unsupported, and empty. I tried to stay strong. I tried to hold on. But sometimes love collapses, and when it does, it leaves a woman shattered in silence. For weeks, I’ve been carrying the weight of emotional pain that I can’t even fully explain. The stress, the disappointment, the heartbreak, it all became too much. And now, instead of continuing to drown in a situation that’s hurting me, I know I have to take a step that scares me… but also gives me hope. I want to start a new life, build a peaceful future for myself and my child, and finally breathe again. I dream of moving to Canada, where I can work, rebuild, and create a stable life full of dignity and peace. But right now, I am financially stuck. I have no job, my savings are gone, and the emotional stress has slowed me down completely. I’m trying to raise $2,000, not for luxury, not for comfort, but simply to begin the process of rebuilding my life. It will help me: Start my visa process Get the documents I need Pay for application fees Take the first steps toward a fresh start in Canada Stand on my feet again after everything I’ve gone through I never imagined asking strangers for help. But today, I am here with humility and hope. If you’ve ever had your heart broken… if you’ve ever had to rebuild yourself from nothing… then you know how much courage it takes to start again. Every donation, big or small, means more than money. It means someone believes in me. It means my story wasn’t ignored. It means hope. If you cannot donate, please share my story. One share could be the reason someone decides to help me. Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring. And thank you for giving me a chance to rise again. Sona ❤️
