Save the Education in Tripoli

Education

Save the Education in Tripoli
Help us raise an amount of 200,00$ in order to support the tuition fees of 500 vulnerable students across private schools in Tripoli. The socio-economic crisis in Lebanon has pushed three-quarters of the Lebanese population into poverty, with an acute cash crisis deteriorating living conditions for millions of people. It also had a very high impact on the already struggling education sector whereby: The low wages of teachers in private schools (an average of 200$) are not covering their transportation expenses, leaving them really incapable of making ends meets Actual tuition fees didn’t constitute enough revenues for schools to increase teacher wages, and cover running costs to keep classrooms lit or heated They had to raise tuition fees on an average of 300% and impose real (Fresh) dollar payment on parents. With the ¾ of the population facing poverty, parents losing their jobs, or still being really underpaid in many sectors, a lot of families are not being able to afford the increase of tuition fees. On the other hand, public education reached a new breaking point with the closure of many public schools, and on and off strikes of the public teachers who are left with a salary as low as 40$, with no insurance and hospitals coverage. Despite many trials, the Government has failed to properly address the problem, and suggest viable solutions. This complex situation has left more than 1 million children without education across Lebanon, and the level of school drop out is expected to sky rocket with the dollarization of tuition fees in private schools, and the bad situation of public education. Those critical times added strain on the already struggling Tripoli, the poorest city of the country, and it’s second largest. Even before the economic meltdown, the poverty rate in the city was 60%, and the unemployment rate has far exceeded this number. Education there is under threat and the impact of the collapsing system will be carried on for several generations, with school dropout rate exceeding 40%. Let’s always remember that Education of children is the most essential factor necessary for the recovery and future of our beloved country, and that the quality of education we used to have has always been a success factor to all of us, in and outside Lebanon..

Help us Rise from Survive to Thrive
Who are we? Hi! My name is Prema dhana das, an active member of ISKCON and follower of Srila Prabhupada. I live here in Lebanon with my family and we lead a small but enthusiastic community of bhakti yogis. After spending our first eight years gathering for kirtans in our homes and various locations around the country, we are currently settled into our own cozy little space in Zalka, called “Bhakti Beirut”. What do we do? Our center is a place where we gather together to support, encourage, and inspire each other along this uplifting path of bhakti. All are welcome, whether they are new, curious, inquisitive, or a seasoned practitioner. We have kirtans, philosophy discussions, books, meditations, food, and most importantly a warm welcome for anyone who steps inside. Why are we reaching out? Well, when you ask someone in Lebanon how they are doing, a common answer that you will get is: “We’re surviving…” “We’re managing” “Somehow still going” “Doing the best we can…” And that essentially defines our situation too. The past years have been increasingly difficult with all the recent events in Lebanon unfolding – a historic economic collapse and sovereign debt default, the infamous Beirut blast that claimed the lives of hundreds of people and terrorized the hearts of thousands more, the local currency crisis which has plummeted more than 6600% since 2019, the resulting shortages of basic necessities (including water, electricity, fuel, medicine, food). As a result, almost all of our energies are focused on making ends meet. We usually find ourselves scrounging around just trying to cover rent. And simply put, this is not where we want to put our focus. The purpose of our existence here is to create a spiritual sanctuary where people can find not only hope and solace, but inspiration, positivity, and connection - to each other and to the highest powers. We want to put all our energies into creating a vibrant, thriving spiritual community. Frankly, it's been a bit tough for us to do this with the constant worries of covering the bare minimum like rent and bills. What are we asking for? We are looking to have some basics covered that will help us to better serve our community here. Keeping with our ambition to evolve from survive to thrive we're looking to upgrade the center. Our humble little kitchen needs a door and a cooking table and the bathroom needs plumbing help. Our outdoor sitting area needs renovation and some basic supplies that will help us host community gatherings in summer, including classes in sattvic and mindful cooking. Our harmonium is literally falling apart and is due to be replaced with a newer, more smoother sounding one. And in particular, one of our heart’s desire is also to revamp our second side room in the center and turn it into a book room. We envision it as a place to store bhakti books including those that we are actively translating into Arabic and those that we will import and distribute. Additionally, this second room can serve as a comfy place to read and chat for our community members. This consists of adding a wall with a proper door, shelving and storage units and comfortable sitting places. Last but not least, the funds we raise will also help us cover rent and utility bills (electricity and building fees) for the years to come which will enable us to really start shifting our energy towards serving the community in all the areas mentioned above and more. In our estimate, this would all take around $5,000 covering the renovations, repairs, replacement of our harmonium in addition to some support with the rent. If this is something that inspires you we hope that you’ll consider contributing to our cause. Lebanon deserves the love and joy that bhakti has to offer and we are determined to keep this flame shining bright in this part of the world. Much love and thank you in advance, Prema dhana das

Help Us Fund the Care and Rescue of Abused Animals
Help Us Fund the Care and Rescue of Abused Animals
Alyarz Pet Club (APC) is a volunteer run, non-profit organization, duly registered as a charity on December 2021, that aims at helping as many animals in need as possible. Our center is more like a sanctuary than a traditional shelter facility. We provide personalized care for special needs cases, and our animal residents come in many different shapes and sizes. Our unique approach distinguishes us from other associations. We provide personalized care to each of our rescues, prioritizing their happiness and overall well-being as if they were living in a home environment. The economic situation in Lebanon has led to an increase in animal abandonment, leaving many domesticated animals to fend for themselves on the streets. This is where we come in, offering a safe and nurturing environment for these animals in need. A significant number of our animals require special attention due to their special needs, as many have been subjected to different forms of abuse and have suffered from severe illnesses that were at times life-threatening. We are committed to providing them with the care they need to recover and regain their health, and we do not give up on them, even if it takes a considerable amount of time and effort to achieve. APC currently houses hundreds of animals, including dogs, cats, bunnies, birds and chickens. Our topmost priority is to offer them a fulfilling life, and we are proud to be a no-kill facility, meaning that our residents are cared for until they find their forever homes. But unfortunately, finding homes for them in Lebanon is not always easy, as they are often deemed “unadoptable", and the current financial crisis has only compounded the issue. Many people have become frustrated to the point where they take out their frustrations on stray animals on the streets. Additionally, finding homes for our animals abroad is always a challenging and complex process. Our monthly expenses typically range from USD 7,000 to USD 10,000, and with donations becoming increasingly scarce, we are in desperate need of assistance in order to continue providing our residents with the exceptional care they deserve.

Help US in supporting Mental Health

Among the projects that we support at PEAKS, we chose to support vulnerable girls aged between 4-22 who are living in Ghedres Orphanage Center. These girls come from challenging backgrounds, and it is crucial to create an environment that promotes their physical, emotional, and educational and psychological well-being. Considering that the girls come from different families with various vulnerabilities, we will factor the following needs: - Provision of basic needs: Since the families are poor, the girls are in need of accessing basic needs such as food, clothing, and healthcare. - Cultural sensitivity and inclusion: Given the different religions and nationalities of the girls, the project will ensure that their religious and cultural sensitivities are taken into consideration, promoting an inclusive and respectful environment. - Education support: The girls in the center are struggling with their education due to unstable home environments. In addition to securing basic education, it is important to focus on vocational education, incorporating programs that provide educational support such as tutoring and mentoring programs will ensure the girls receive education support. - Rehabilitation support: Some girls are dealing with the aftermath of living with drug-addict parents or families that have gone through a divorce, death, or separation. As such, psychotherapeutic services and rehabilitation programs should be implemented to ensure they receive the necessary psychological and emotional support. Hence, the project will include several divisions: the rehabilitation and renovation of the center, developing a comprehensive plan for their daily routine with extra-curricular activities and psychotherapy, and providing vocational education to empower them for a brighter future. With the accumulation of crises in Lebanon, which led to the collapse of public education in the last 4 years, we found ourselves forced to move these girls to private schools to complete their education process, which added to us an additional burden, which in addition to the regular expenses mentioned above, imposes on us a schooling fees ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 US dollars per year for each girl. Through your donations to PEAKS, you help sustain the provision of services and increase the capacity to accommodate more humanitarian cases. Thanks for your generous support!

The House of Christmas
The House of Christmas
The House of Christmas NGO – Overview Brief: The House of Christmas (‘HOC’) was set up by a group of Lebanese professionals living locally and globally to support families living in financial distress across Lebanon, in their various needs: food and basic needs, decent livelihood, housing, medical services, education and legal support. Our first fundraising event was held in December 2017 at the House which turned, for a day, into a proper Christmas market with gifts, kid’s activities, a food court, and a proper spirit of charity, solidarity and compassion to help alleviate the pain, inequality and poverty in Lebanon. Since then, HOC organized several fundraising initiatives; and our network of families has grown exponentially. HOC operates solely on a voluntary basis and is run by a team of dedicated individuals with similar values and common purpose. Mission Statement - Reaching out to families in need across Lebanon to help them regain their dignity and achieve sustainability in their lives. - Providing targeted support to stabilize and strengthen livelihoods Vision Supporting, inspiring, and rebuilding our Lebanese community, family by family. Latest interventions: Following the August 4th blast, HOC is leading the Livelihood interventions within the togetherliBeirut campaign by supporting small businesses in a targeted and sustainable way and by restoring heritage buildings housing vulnerable families and local businesses. www.togetherlibeirut.org

Every aspect of our lives – health, school, work, travel – has been upended. We’ve all had to compromise, sacrifice, and learn once again to deal with the unknown. Our school has been confronted with some painfully difficult choices, nevertheless we remained focused on our mission to enable CSJ to be a haven of peace and stability for many students and families. Indeed, the crisis in Lebanon is causing a large-scale violent deprivation, affecting the ability of many families to pay for their childrens’ education. However, one of the constants of our school has always been, and remains the inclusion, diversity and social mix. Our school, our family, counts today 700+ students and 140+ teaching and administrative staff, providing quality education and dignified employment. To be able to keep our doors open, we have established a solidarity fund dedicated to meet the needs of the school’s operations and cover the operating expenses which are increasing with local and global inflation, to ease the burden on some parents to pay for the schooling of families in difficulty and to keep our commitment towards our teachers and help them sustain a decent livelihood. If you have not yet made a gift and are in a position to do so, we appeal to your solidarity to pursue together our educational mission, to : 1) support in covering the tuition fees of students in need, 2) contribute to the salaries of the teachers and staff who are the main pillars of this institution and whom we trust with the dearest to our hearts, and 3) cover the dollarized operational costs of the school which are increasing. We count on your support to give back and ensure that the Carmel St. Joseph remains at the service of society and present generations, as it has been for the many past generations. “The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention” Our alumni are doers of deeds, well prepared by life to make a difference. Nadim, just at 51 years old, had a life changing experience

This campaign tells the story of Nadim, who experienced a life-altering accident when he fell from a scaffold. As a result, his daily tasks became extremely challenging. Despite facing financial difficulties due to the economic crisis in Lebanon, there was a glimmer of hope when Nadim was approved for a trial treatment in France that could restore his autonomy. However, the cost of the treatment was approximately $140,000. The campaign successfully raised $51,085, which greatly influenced Nadim and his family. Not only did your contributions give Nadim hope, but they also provided hope to a whole community of individuals with special needs, as he was among the first Lebanese people to undergo this operation.
