People with Birt-Dogg-Dubé syndrome are at increased risk of developing colon or kidney cancer (in 15%) as well as spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse) due to pulmonary (lung) cysts. Omar, my 28-year old cousin, father of two young girls, is suffering from 80% lung collapse and is in urgent need for a double-lung transplant.
